“Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight.” Proverbs 9:6
It doesn’t matter how many very bad decisions we’ve made in the past – we don’t have to keep making them. We don’t have to continue to travel down roads that lead to places we don’t want to go. It’s not too late. According to this verse, it is possible to leave one’s simple ways – and live a different life. Right now, today, can be the beginning of that.
We are still in the first quarter of the year, which means it’s a good time to reflect on the goals we set in January, and evaluate how we’ve faired thus far. How’s it going thus far? What’s working? What’s not working? Are we in need of changes, adjustments, or course corrections? Letting go of things that simply aren’t working is part of that.
Sometimes, in the busyness of life, it can be easy to just hop on the treadmill and start running, not realizing that what we are doing may be of some benefit, but really isn’t getting us anywhere.
Wisdom and insight are important components of a forward moving life. Looking at our lives with honesty, and determining to leave behind simple, immature, unproductive ways, is of tremendous importance to us as believers.
Reflecting on our goals may necessitate a “spring cleaning” of sorts. Instead of mindlessly pushing forward with habits and practices that clearly aren’t serving us, perhaps we can make some decisions to begin doing things differently.
How about you? How is your year going thus far? Are there some “simple ways” that need to be left behind? Are there changes you know you need to make, but haven’t done so thus far? Maybe now is the time to make that happen. You can do it. The way of insight awaits you.
