“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7
If we allow them to, our circumstances will rule our lives. Our thoughts, feelings, moods, and decisions will all rise and fall based on the circumstances of the moment. Brethren, this ought not be!
I think as believers, we have to make a decision: Are we going to walk by faith, or by sight? Are we going to believe what God says, or what our experiences seem to communicate? Will we be driven by emotion, or by devotion to God and His precepts as outlined in Scripture? If we fail to make this decision regarding how we will live, the winds and waves of life will drive our lives. Don’t ask me how I know.
God allows trials and tribulations into our lives not to break us, but to make us. Think about Joseph for a moment. That brother went through a lot. Sold into slavery, falsely accused and imprisoned, left alone and forgotten. Not the best of circumstances. Yet, we are told over and over again that God was with him – and it showed. Joseph had the right attitude, even in the midst of dire circumstances, and so can we. God is with us no matter what life looks like at the moment.
We all respond as we do for myriad reasons. But one thing I know is that we don’t have to be the victims of circumstantial evidence. Our circumstances don’t have to dictate the quality of our lives. We have a Rock, a Fortress, and a Stronghold (Ps. 18:2). Things are not always as they appear. Our circumstances seldom tell the whole story. The whole story belongs to God and God alone. Let’s put our trust in Him.
