Being in a job you don’t love can suck the life right out of you
(But it doesn’t have to be that way)
You’ve been toughing it out in a job you hate (I’ve been there!). Maybe you’ve pursued additional training, tried counseling, talked to friends, or moved from one mediocre job to another. You’ve probably read some books, attended a seminar, or prayed.
And none of that has worked.
Listen. God’s plan for you does not include merely “sticking it out” in a soul-sucking job.
For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
That’s right. You are uniquely made by God, and He created you to have a meaningful life!
That doesn’t mean you can simply think or pray your way out of that job though (I’m sure you’ve tried that already!). It takes more than that.
Hi, I’m Dutchess, and I help women transition out of jobs they don’t love and find the careers that make their souls sing.
The career coaching that I provide is biblically and doctrinally informed. I don’t rely solely on my own knowledge, or that of those I coach. So we will pray. We will search Scripture together. We will seek wisdom and apply it. And in the end we will trust that God, in His sovereignty, is working out all things in your career according to His plan – for your good and His glory.
All the while, though, we will address habits, fear, finances, and other barriers that have been keeping you stuck. And you will receive the love and support of a coach who has a vested interest in your success.
I know what it’s like to experience fear about taking a leap into the unknown.
I will be honest with you. I have taken the scenic route to arrive at my true vocational calling. Upon graduating from college, I served as a counselor in a job that I absolutely loved. About a year and a half into my tenure there, I found myself at a crossroads. Should I continue down the journey toward licensure as a substance abuse counselor – something I loved, or should I leave to pursue my Ph.D. (a lifelong dream). In the end, I chose to leave in order to pursue graduate studies.
Fast forward twenty years – I’d been working in higher education and in the non-profit sector at jobs that “made sense” for a Ph.D. But they never really captured my heart. To be honest, I was miserable.
I knew I wasn’t playing to my strengths, passions and talents. For years, all I really wanted to do was to be a coach, writer, and speaker. My passion is working face to face and hand to hand with those I serve to transform lives. That’s why I’m so passionate about coaching.
You are reading this right now because I took the leap.
And so can you.
Don’t spend another day feeling stuck in your job.

A few fun facts about me:
- Libraries and bookstores are my happy places. Super-nerdy I know, but true.
- I love putting together jigsaw puzzles (it’s my analytical mind at work!) and watching old black-and-white movies. I recently rewatched Gaslight starring Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer. You knew that term (gaslighting) is derived from a classic movie, right? Other favorites include Mildred Pierce, North by Northwest, and Rocky.
- Aside from my Ph.D. in Education, I am an ACBC Certified Biblical Counselor and an NASM Behavior Change Specialist. You’d better believe we’ll be bringing in all of that experience in our work together!
