This blog typically addresses content geared toward women seeking to transition into jobs they love. However, there is something much more important than our careers that I want to address today: The Gospel of Jesus Christ.
I recently began teaching a class called The Heart of Addiction – based on a book of the same name written by Dr. Mark Shaw. As I set the foundation for the class, I ended with a presentation and discussion of the Gospel. Every single woman in the class has tried various resources and methods to overcome drug and alcohol abuse and/or addiction, and to date, none of them have worked. That’s because the solution to overcoming addiction is not a process, but a person – Jesus Christ. Likewise, even as I focus on career coaching on this website, I do you a great disservice if I leave you believing that the most important thing in your life is that you have a career you love. What is more important than that – much more important, is that you have a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a good news bad news situation. The bad news is really, really bad – but that’s what makes the good news so amazingly good.
Here’s the bad news. God is holy and perfect. We, on the other hand, are sinners. Dirty, low-down, good for nothing, rotten sinners. Oh, I know the world wants us to believe we are special and wonderful, but we’re not. It’s not hard for us to verify this. All we have to do is take a quick look at our past – or present. We have committed horrible sins, and those sins created a huge gap between us and God, and deserve punishment – ETERNAL punishment (death).
That’s the bad news. It’s pretty bad, isn’t it? I told you it was. But here’s the good news. God demonstrated unimaginable love by sending His Son to take the punishment we deserved. You see, God the Father took our horrible sins, and credited them to Jesus’ account. And He took Jesus’ perfect life, death, and resurrection, and credited them to our account. Therefore, when He looks at our account balance, there is nothing owed. As the hymn says, Jesus paid it all. As a result, the gap between us and God has been closed. We can now go near to Him and have a real relationship. A saving relationship. An everlasting relationship – as His children.
But here’s the thing – this is only true for those who believe. For those who believe, truly believe from the heart, that Jesus is the Son of God, that He really did live a perfect life, died on a cross to pay for our sins, and then rose on the third day (and is now seated in heaven at the right hand of the Father). However, those who do not believe – who refuse to believe, will face eternal damnation – apart from God, forever.
The only question that really matters is – do you believe? Do you really truly believe this? Do you believe it applies to YOU? Have you placed your only hope for salvation in this truth? If you do, then you have taken the most important step of your life, and your life will not be the same.
How about you? Have you made a true profession of faith in Jesus Christ? Has He taken out your heart of stone and given you a heart of flesh? Is your desire to know, love, please, and obey Him? If not, it can be.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16
Do I want you to have the career of your dreams? Absolutely. But I want you to know Christ much more. Why not surrender your life to Him today? Once that’s squared away we can talk about your career.
